I'd say that a lot of us are probably feeling the same way.

Unfortunately I don't own an FF controller, and I don't own enough
games which support FF to warrant it. However, once the patch is
released, if I see a good responce to it on the rec.autos.simulators
newsgroup, I may even buy a good FF wheel JUST for GPL and a couple of
other FF games I own.

I am hoping that the new patch will add some new features to GPL.
Although they've made a truely brilliant product here, there certainly
could be a couple of small improvements - however, in all reality I
don't expect the sort of things I'm thinking of to be change in GPL,
but perhaps in a sequel, or even in a future Sierra product.

You can point fingers at groups like RAS.  We have a tendancy to
attack anyone who can't live up to claims.  I cannot tell you how many
times we've had some product released that fell short of it's specs.
Even if we had some real dialogue going with the programmers,
once the item fell below our expectations, we crucified the guys.
So, If I'm Papyrus,  I keep my mouth shut til I have something
to show.  If I say....FF and then can't deliver, I'm gonna get
creamed.  If I promise GPL physics and then have to back away
from that...I'm sure I won't find too many forgiving folks here.

Yup this is true.  HOWEVER, I think as much of its on the other foot because
of marketing departments completely outrageous claims in some instances.
And then the PR people follow that same line if they post here or on
websites, sometimes developers or project leads are forced to tow the
company lines, etc.

Right...but depends on the reason.  Was it a legitimate reason it feel below
"our" expectations?  Or was it just a point of it didn't meet the hype, etc
that was talked about.

Right on again.  However, its one thing to say "hey we tried to deliver FF
but felt that our implementation wasn't good enough so didn't" than "hey
this is the greatest and most realistic FF ever!" and then its really really
bad implementation of it.  This also applies to other things.

Its a double edge sword.  Don't say anything and folks get ancy, say
something the wrong way and folks freak out when it doesn't make the grade,
say you are going to deliver X but don't and don't offer any explanation or
you deliver X and it isn't actually A (i.e. substantially worse) then folks
are gonna be unhappy.  I think folks do have the right to critize when the
feel that a product doesn't live up to what it was billed as; after all it
is their hard earned money they spend on the product and they spend it with
the expectation it will live up to the billing it receives.

From time to time I check John Carmack's .plan file. I'd love to be able
to check yours or your co-workers, too! ;^)

Last night I had a really really great time driving in GPL with the
force feedback on....
only to wake up and realize I had been dreaming.
The patch really has to come very soon now, I think it's not really
healthy now that I even start dreaming about it....

Why all the secrecy about the patch? Why doesn't papy keep us informed
on the status of the patch? We are all waiting months for it now,
surely they can release some kind of expected release date?
Why not keep us informed on the status like Jack does with his GPaL?

Just an Opinion...  I think they arwe keeping us in the dark because
there is no way to give a release dat.  If they were to give us one,
Everyone would start ***ing because it was out just one day late.  Given
the fact thjat most patches are released well past the doe date and you
have a LOT of people POed.

The FFB is a nice option if it is truly in there. I wont use it till
my home built wheel dies, But that is only me.. We wont know for absolute
till the patch is released if it's in there.  Till then, the only thing I
want patched is the sliding around at Monico at 5 mph.  If they were to
color the track in spots with a black oil, then I'd say keep it the way it
is. But as it stands now, How the heck can you slide into the wall some 10
feet only driving 5 mph without oil on the track?
