F1RS is decent...

It's a total pain to get F1RS to run without crashing the system. It's a
chore to go through all the menus and reload the setups. It was very
difficult to get the game to recognize my T2. For some reason I have to
reset the gear-shift to manual every time, which is mildly annoying. I
can't get the replays to work, my system will just shut down and kick me
back to the desktop.  This is really a shame, for I find replays to be
one of the more enjoyable experiences in driving games like N2, NFSIISE
and Screamer 2 with the 3Dfx patch. I've installed the F1RS patch and
still wonder what it does. I cross my fingers every time I run the game
in hopes of being able to drive without having the system kick me back
to the desktop. If this were a lesser game, then it would have gone back
to the store for an exchange. However, once the race has begun, all is
forgiven and I'm totally immersed within the driving experience.;) Even
with all the hassles and headaches, F1RS is now on my list of keepers;
games that live on my computer to be played over and over.

Just my opinion; nothing new, nothing more.

Oh yeah, does anyone have an idea when the Act Labs RS force-feedback
wheel is being released?

Cordially,
Buddha

I agree with everything you say. The patch has onnly solved a couple of the
many problems. Here's to the next one!

F1RS is decent...

Hi Richard,

Now I'm totally confusued, since I've had little (if any) trouble
with F1RS.  Apart from the ultra-slow replays, and menus that
you could watch grass grow by, the sim is truly remarkable, and
one IMHO is the best sim to be released thus far.

The only main detraction in this fine game, would have to be the
differences in how it 'acts' on each system, a problem where a little
more testing would have helped - I just happen to be one of the
lucky few who haven't been bit (either before or after the patch).

BTW, my system is a standard P150 (o/c to 166), Monster 3Dfx
coupled to a Canopus Rendition, AWE32 and Win95.  Nothing
fancy, and certainly nothing out of the ordinary.  The only slow
downs are at the start of an event, but things smooth out after a 1/4
lap or so.  I have nothing loading upon Win95 startup, and have
little to nothing churning in the background (noquick-finder crap,
etc.).

What I found for the wheels was that the sim appears to only want
to use the very first item listed in your joystick control panel.  I
could be wrong on this, because it helped me and a friend, but
didn't do anything for another friend.  Strange.

Cheers!

Marc
PS: Am I imagining things, or isn't there any modem-to-modem
play?...I found everything else, but I'm stumped.  Guess I'll have
to dial the 'net to play my buddy down the street.  =t

F1RS is decent...

Hi Marc,

I'm impressed by many aspects of this sim and have been lucky enough not
to experience any major problems either - I don't even have slow menus
<g> (try increasing your desktop resolution as I've heard that can
improve menu performance (why? I don't know <g>))

My main problem with F1RS is that the car is simply too stable through
flat out corners.

Strange but true! :(

Had a go via Kali last night and whilst there was some noticable warping
it was nowhere near as bad as N2 via Kali (but nowhere near as good as N2
via modem either). Couldn't find any way of getting any AI in the race
with us and the first time it wouldn't allow us to load setups, next time
it would.....

Cheers,
Richard

Hey guys, if you don't have any problems with F1RS that's good for you, but
a lot of people have, that's why Ubi are busy on the next patch! They don't
do it for fun.
Does F5 and F6 work in the race for you? Does the tyre compound get saved
with the car setup correctly in the original version? (try changing to 'D'
and reload.) Does the fact that it goes through EVERY lap after 'abandon
race' is selected not drive you mad in a full race? If you have 'automatic'
gears set, does F1RS not change it back to 'manual' when you change modes,
eg. from 'Time Attack' to 'Grand Prix'? Did your CH Pedals work before the
new patch?
Most importantly, does it not crash occasionally? What not ever?
Believe me I think F1RS is superb, otherwise I wouldn't be bothering about
all this.
Cheers,
Iain
