I get the green smoke in 16-bit color on a Rage Fury.  I don't
remember if it did it in 32-bit.

Life is what you experience between racing games.

When starting a race all the cars squeel the tires. The burning *** pours
out green smoke. Voodoo 3000. Anybody else notice this?

Same thing on my V3 3000.  Strange, since everything else looks great.

I have V3 3500 and have green smoke problem too. Did you play the game at 16
bit or 32 bit color? I am wondering if this green smoke problem occur at 32
bit color as well. I can't test it with my card since V3 doesn't support 32
bit color.

Here too with a GeForce. Just wrote it off to weirdness ... everything
else seems to have appropiate colors.

Since the game has no option for 24 bit color, I assume the Voodoo card is
actually running in D3D, not Glide. Any other thoughts on this?

If you go to the 3DSetup folder, you will see the file 3DSetup.ini.  Edit it
and you will see the following for Voodoo cards:

CARD_3Dfx Voodoo /M:voodoo2 /I
CARD_3Dfx Voodoo Rush /M:voodoo2 /I
CARD_3Dfx Voodoo2 /M:dx /I
CARD_3Dfx Banshee /M:dx /I
CARD_3Dfx Voodoo3 /M:dx /I

From this I guess that V3 cards are set to run in DirectX mode.  Some people
have suggested changing the V3 line to:

CARD_3Dfx Voodoo3 /M:voodoo2 /I

and re-running 3DSetup.exe.  This should set the game to Glide mode.

I've tried this on my setup (V3 2000) and the only difference I've noticed
is that the centreline is more blurred in DX mode.  I can't really see any
difference in the framerate although I can't be sure as Fraps doesn't work
in either mode.

Back to the smoke issue, I see green smoke in both modes and can only use
16-bit colour.  All I can say is if thats the biggest problem in the game we
haven't got much to worry about.  Hope this helps.

I'm off to deliver a Boxster undamaged.

Cheers

Phil

Of   course you're right, Phil. Smoke color ain't much to worry about ;) I
was just curious if it was just my computer. I think only Voodoo1 cards run
Glide in this game. It  would be nice if Glide support for Voodoo3 was added
later though. Might increase frame rates quite a bit.

I got the top down in the Speedster and I'm wearing my scarf. I'll put on
dark sunglasses and never notice the smoke color ;)

There is a fix that lets you run glide with a VOODOO2. And you are right ,the
frame rate is much better (at least with SLI it is. )
