The 1996 cars have approximately 35% less downforce than the 1995
cars, after which the game was patterned. As well, they ran less boost
this year than in previous years. During practice, however, Adrian
Fernandez ran a few laps at 235+ before qualifying. Oddly enough, Mario
Andretti, who still owns the track record, got it in the older car with
more downforce and boost. Under proper circumstances, the newer cars can
be faster.
