I was wondering if there was an ftp site or web page that had zipped
up replays of these lap records? I really don't want to make a LD call
to Papyrus unless I have to.

Thanks.

must be, because I beat the Milwaukee lap listed here on my first
10 laps on that track by over 4mph... also - some of these numbers
exactly match the lap times Darrel Cherry drove in ICR 1.05 in
IICC, and I know he was listed at the Papyrus BBS with some records

This might be a stupid question, but how do you work out the lap time
from a saved replay ? The only way I can think of doing this is to cut
the replay from the start of the lap to the end of the lap. Am I
missing something ?

yup - it's called editrpy.exe  -  a great utility written
by Michael Corrigan that does a hell of a lot more than
just give you lap speeds for time. And it isn't as inaccurate
as the replay themselves are. Take a look at
your fracing ftp sites and give it a shot - you might be surprised
what it can do for your driving style, once you superimpose your
own best lap on another one...

try the one that has been there since day one:

ftp://didnt.doit.wisc.edu

Open wheels ftp only! ;-)

got a new toy there since last night:

NASICR.ZIP - apparenlty a slick track conversion tool for
NASCAR tracks to go to ICR - haven't tried it yet.

I did download EDITRPY and it only works on nascar and Indycar 1 not
indycar 2.

Is there a way to use it on indycar 2 or is there a new version ?

there is a very early beta, not on my server, though. The main
problem is that Papayrus seems to have forgotten how to do
simple  math - the lap speeds reported in the game are totally
incorrect based on the time the game is measuring and the track
legth. just check out Loudon and look at the 21+ lap times that
still get you into the high 180's inside the game. The
author of editrpy is still trying to figure out why the speeds are
off by so much (like 6-7mph of where they should be!), so that his
editor can correctly interpret the replay files.

I have the beta running, and it's not worth the effort - it reports
massive "track length" errors when booting.

EDITRPY works (partially) with ICR2 by telling it to use NASCAR style
replays but point it at the ICR2 directory tree.

That's the best we can do until a newer version appears.

Is there a version that works with Nascar???

The version we have on The Pits only works on ICR1.

Where can we get an up-to-date copy?

I am not arguing with your point, but am curious.  When they measure the
length of a track at what point do they use for distance (middle,
outside, inside)?  Taking corners on the inside will shorten a track
while taking corners up against the wall will lengthen it.

As far as I know they measure the line 10 feet outside the white line
which defines the inside of the curve.  Easy to do on ovals of course,
but road courses might be a little more difficult.

At a road circuit the tracklength should be messured in the middle.
