A friend of mine told me of a Daytona patch for NASCAR, does anyone have
any information about it?  Is it out, or in the works?

                                                    Thanks

To my knowledge, nope.
at one point, a group of enthusiasts were trying to hack a track for
Daytona, but they abandoned the project for reasons unknown.

SEGA still holds the Daytona license, although I've heard reports that
their license expires Spring 97. Still no confirmation whether NASCAR
2.0 or the NRL will have Daytona in the line-up.

What sucks the most is the fact that Sega's game isn't even close To NASCAR
racing. What a waste of a license.

Ryan:

I share your pain/annoyance. Having recently converted "The Brickyard"
from my ICR1, Daytona is the *ONLY* WinstonCup Track that I've yet to
run in. (I run Talledega twice in my simulated seasons, just not the
same.)

Whether or not a mega-money maker like SEGA will give up the license
cheaply is a matter of some concern. It seems irrelevant to their
platform game, but their coin-op "Daytona Racing" is still popular in
the arcades.

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

NASCAR/International Speedway Corp. (ISC) may not give SEGA a choice.  All
it has to do is specifically not grant them an exclusive license to
Daytona or limit their choice of platforms and grant Sierra/Papyrus the
licenses required to produce their versions of the game.

Speaking of Sega racing games, has anyone played Indy500? I tried it a
couple of weeks ago thinking that it would be just as bad as DaytonaUSA
and, much to my surprise, I found it incredibly realistic.

I don't have much experience with IndyCars, but the track looked like
the one I have (converted) in Nascar Racing, and the handling of the car
seemed to be very close to what I would be expecting from a 'pointy car'.

The AI drivers are not stupid, either: I was able to get out of a 3-wide
situation in turn 1 without damage.

Just my thoughts

Sega's Indy 500 game has arcade written all over it.  It doesn't handle
realistically, crashes are unrealistic and you get repaired instantly.
The computer crashes a few times every lap.  It's not like it's not fun,
it's just not realistic at all.

It's not very good with respect to driving, especially if you play ICR2.
The steering wheel is too tight and the car is too loose and the AI
wrecks in front of you all the time (but no where else). But the track
does look more like Indy than Daytona does in Daytona USA. I know this
because the gameroom at school just put in Daytona USA and sat it next
to Indy 500 (taking out Ridge Racer...aargh). I refuse to play Daytona
USA (despite the fact it's 75 cents) because of the way Sega has
represented Daytona. It's nowhere near correct, and Papyrus, who can do
(has done?) the track correctly cannot get the license until at least
next year.

Well, I didn't say that it is a good simulation. personally, I don't mind
having 'arcade damage' or 'no damage' in this kind of games. What the hell,
here in Switzerland you pay 1.5$ for those 4-5 laps, and I really would
be angry if I was caught up in an accident in the first turn.

I also agree with the person who said that the car is a little bit loose,
but maybe the people at Sega are not "setup wizards" like most of the
people in this group <g>.

About the AI drivers crashing, I didn't see any... Maybe I just didn't
look far enough, since I was concentrating on my driving.

I have a unique problem trying to race Daytona USA. At 6'4" tall, I can't
get behind the wheel very easily, and the last time I tried, banged up my
knee a little and almost got stuck! I looked like Kramer from the
Seinfeld show, trying to get out of the seat.
This was much more challenging than the "simulation" itself, which
doesn't even come close to resembling Daytona Speedway.
