Back when I was racing on Hawaii my Sportster always worked fine
(usually around .11 latencies) with the default init string (or lack
there of, as it was just AT&Z or something like that).

I have a US Robotics Sportster 28.8 modem that's sitting on my desk
collecting dust, because I cant get it to work properly on Hawaii.  I
have
tried the recommended Hawaii string, but even with that, the best
latency I
get is .25! I don't think anyone would run door to door with me a Sears
Point with that kind of latency! (g)
If any of you guys race successfully with this type of modem,
then you must know something I don't!  Any help you could offer in this
area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I had the same problem when I was racing Hawaii with a Sportster.
I was told, by hawaii support, that some Sportsters reported wrong
latency numbers. I was also getting .25. I think if you hit <control> Y
from the chat window, the correct lateny will be reported. Which in my
case a .12. Not 100% sure of <control> Y. It's <control> "something".

Yes, it's <control   y    t >  once you are in the race menu.  I
always got the .25 latency with my old generic Hayes compatible,
and with my current Sportster.  When using this function to display
the true latency, I will get a reading from between .10 and .13
