N4, spinning at Daytona all by myself?

I was racing at Daytona tonight in the draft.  I was in the inside lane with a
car to my right and rusty behind me.  I started to drift up a bit so I pulled
the wheel a bit to the left to bring 'er down.  A second later, the back end
was coming around and into the wall I went.  When I looked at the replay, I
noticed sparks coming from my car before I spun.  Is bottoming  out modeled in
this game?  If so, I'm sure that'd cause me to spin.

I can't say about N4, but GPL does it, so it's quite possible N4 is
this way, too.

Yes, bottoming out and scraping the frame is built into the game. Lower your
springs to 750 on rt side and see for yourself if you can handle it as it scapes
and spins out...

I found if you come out of turn 4 at Rockingham too high you can catch a
bump which will really unsettle the car and whip the rear around on you.

LOL!

You bet it is :)

My setup at Lowes is very aggressive, and if I do it just right I turn
amazingly fast laps.  If I enter turn 1 wrong, I bottom (even with 1800
pound springs) and it's all over.

If I can learn this setup I've created consistently enough to not do this, I
think I will have one of the fastest Lowe's cars on the circuit.

If....

Exiting turn 2 at Lowes, there is a bump that will loosen up the rear for a
split second.

I have actually tuned that bump into my setup for Lowes, and it's perfect
for kicking the rear around just right and setting you strait down the
backstrait.  You'll swear your gonna hit the wall, then the rear hits the
bump and 'kicks' around and points you in the right direction.

I'm probably trying a bit too *** this one :)

Weird thing is, if you look at the AI cars on a highbank track, they will
appear to have part of their frame (plus like half of the wheel) riding down
in the track (with no ill effects of course)...

I do that *ALOT*.  It's at Daytona and Taladega.  Not only do I bottom
out but when I should be back up and off the ground again, the car seems to
want to stick and continue to bottom out.  I've even attempted raising the
ride hight way up but that doesn't work either :(

I think what happens is that the underbody force on the car sucks it
down more the lower it is riding, so once it is lower than some critical
point, the increase in spring tension upon compression is smaller than
the increase of aerodynamic force and as such is no longer able to
counter it, so the car sticks to the ground.

That "sticking to the ground" effect might be due to the shock settings
you're using - if you have the compression fairly low but the rebound
very stiff, the front of the car will come down very easily on a bump,
but will take forever to come back up, so once it hits the ground it'll
probably stay there for some time on a bumpy track. Try dropping the
rebound a bunch.

That's great for qualifying, but I wouldn't want to try a long race with it.
(Which is what I do - long 30%+ races).

No offense intended but 30% is long?  hehe, Just did a league race that
was 40% yesterday.  I had completely forgot how short these NASCAR races
were.  can't wait for the possibility of 24 hour racing :-)

I had the same thing happen at Bristol in N2 and N3...<g>

Relative to the 5-10% online races.  I'm usually a 50% or longer...

Think there's more to this than bottoming out or setup wierdness...

I had a prime example of the 'phantom' spin happen to me last night in
a multiplayer race at Talladega.  Only 2 of us running, we were about
a second apart, no lag, and all of a sudden my car was 'bumped' and
spun.  I say bumped because you can clearly see in the replay that the
rear of the car raises as if it was hit and then spins.

Have had this happen a couple of times, but only in multiplayer, so
I'm wondering if this is lag related (even though my lag was in the
green the whole time, no spikes at all), or more of the bug variety...
