Hawaii and qualifying process

A question to the Papyrus tech people:

Is it possible to modify the current Nascar Racing engine to allow
more than 30-odd drivers into the qualifying round of a race?  I know
you can't have more than 36 cars racing around Dega (for example) at
one time, but is it not possible to allow more than this number into
the qualifying round?  After all, there's only 1 car on the track
during qualifying, and only the 30-odd fastest qualifying times need
be posted.

The way the game is currently designed weakens to an extent the
potential of series races.  If any series wants to simulate a full
NASCAR schedule, then it would have to limit its membership to
whatever the lowest car limit is (28 for Richmond I think).  While
currently there aren't any series that I know of that has even 28
people regularly participating, Hawaii is still young and under beta.

And with NASCAR getting on the MP bandwagon, I'm sure whatever series
they offer will quickly grow in popularity.  I'd like to see large
series with 50+ members forming.  This would place so much more
importance on qualifying, since you'll never know if you will even get
to start the race.  My guess is that NASCAR, and everyone else, would
welcome this added realism.

I agree.  As it is now, if you have more than 36 drivers interested in
qualifying for Talladega, only the first 36 who join the race can
attempt to qualify.  There should be an unlimited number of drivers who
can attempt to qualify.  The top 36 make the race.  The rest are booted
out to the chat room.  After all, if 36 drivers race, you want them to
be the best 36 that showed up.  The problem will be the practice
session.  Clearly the first 36 will be allowed to practice, but what
about the rest.  Maybe that's appropriate though.  The first one's in
get to practice (early bird type thing).  Also, the assignment of cars
would have to be postponed till after the qualifying round is over.  All
in all, this seems to be more complicated every minute.
