You need to keep in mind that EA/ISI needed to get this game out to
capitalize on the 2000 season. I would imagine that the shelf life of a
modern F1 game is very short. Which is why EA and Microprose have already
committed to sequels. EA could either ship the game now and make alot of
money (while upsetting many people) or ship a finished product that no one
wants to buy because it's outdated. I think that GP3 is going to suffer a
bit from this as well, but GP4 is scheduled for release this year too!
Since GPL was a niche product recreating the 1967 season, there was no rush
to get the game to market. Using GPL as a base... maybe EA should have held
off releasing F1 2000 until 2021. By then the game would be representation
of a "classic" era, and I might own the hardware that can get the FPS over
30.
BTW... As one who downloaded the warez version, I'd like to let all the
uptight individuals know that I no longer have it installed and am patiently
waiting for (1) a patch to be released and (2) better video card technology
to hit the market.
