Doug Arnao's time for the Nurburgring - just. I finally put together a lap
where got more or less everything right and didn't fall for trying something
extra anywhere and the result was 8.21.79, 0.14 seconds quicker than the
estimable Mr Arnao. That was some 7 seconds off my PB and drops my GPLRank
handicap to the point where I can smell that minus sign.
I'd like to thank (in particular - there are far too many people whose
advice has been valuable) JensSchumi for his LogiCorner page for the tip to
eradicate the slackness in my LWFF, and the author of
gn_nurb_fer_8m07_43.fe1 (Graham Nash?) for the Ferrari set-up I was using
(although putting the time in there shows up how far I'm still off the
pace...) and finally my new Athlon which I'm sure has made driving smoother.
So then Eldred, the gauntlet is thrown down. My times are comparable with
yours (within a second mostly, and you're quicker at Zandvoort and [spit]
Mexico) with glaring one exception: 16+ seconds at Nurburgring.
Next target - a decent time at Monaco, where I'm 1.57 seconds slower than
Dave Kaemmer.

GPLRank +1.76, 777th place
(The 777 is not a coincidence. I've made a deal with this bloke and he's
promised me that when I actually go negative I'll be 666th :-)
"On some laps I'd get as many as fif*** corners really right, but Moss, he
gets them all right on every lap" - Von Trips after the 1961 German Grand
Prix.
P.S. The shine was taken off the day a little later when my home team
(Coventry City, whom I've supported through thin and thin for more years
than I care to remember) were relegated from the Premier Division after 34
years. But nothing could wipe the silly grin off my face.
P.P.S. "A Pretty Good Day So Far" is a reference to an obscure record by
Loudon Wainwright III, in case anyone was wondering.
