GP2: Anyone blown a motor yet?

by Steve Goodw » Tue, 06 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I've had the following failures usually during practice and qualifying
in championship mode, never had one in just practice by yourself.

Throttle Problem - The Throttle got stuck, kinda cool driving
around with the throtle stuck open until you hit a wall and can't stop
the bastard thing.

Brake Problem - Brakes were very innefective, they still
worked, but very very slow, interesting fault to worked kinda neat I
thought, although it happened on one of my best qualifying laps :)

Transmission Failure, Couldn't changed into second, all the
other gears worked ok, but 2nd wouldn't go so I was stuck with 1st
basically till I got to the pits.

Thats all I've experienced but all of them had a challenge and it
wasn't like you were immediately kicked out of the race.  I much
prefer this than to ICRIi when you toouch a wall your tire would blow
and your out of the race etc etc etc.  And the other drivers in ICRII
would always ram you up the arse etc, definately not as smart as in
F1GP2.

: I would drive around with invincibility turned off but I can't seem to
: keep the car together long enough to blow a motor. :)

I have had an engine failure. I only managed to practice for a couple
of laps and then the engine starded to make strange noise. I also lost
a lot of horsepower. My rear mirrors were filled with smoke from my
engine. I drove almost half a lap, but then I crashed to the wall and
didn't see what would have happened if I had just kept on driving.

One cant' blow their engine by over reving.. Much with the mechanical
failures one you can have Engine failure (among other things)...  IN
qualifiying, I finally was putting together a good lap after about 4 laps
of spinning via accelerating too fast, when my transmission failed and I
couldn't get past first gear.
I have seen numerous engine failures by the computer cars (in one race
about 6 cars went out with blown engines, 4 of which I managed to catch
in replay).  So far I have seen two types. One where white smoke billows
out of the engine for a while (as long as 2 laps) when the car finally
gives out and the driver pulls off. The other has been white smoke as
above, but when he pulls off there are flames shooting out of the engine.
My brother said he was behind a car when it's engine gave out, when it
parked tothe side a bunch of black smoke came out then the engine burst
into flames.

Hi!

maybe it was oil leaking that fell over the tires, just right the real
thing, hu? :)

>don't worry, it happened to me ... I was forced to park on the side,
>and watch the end of the race... I was playing a nullmodem link race
>with a friend...

I was doing a full distance race in Canada and my engine went on lap
32 whilst in second place. Even more galling, on an 83 lap race at
Aida my throttle went on lap 78 ! I was over 10 seconds in the lead.
Now I know how Gerhard Berger felt in Germany.
