GP2: Modem Init failed.. Help!!!! :(

by C.. » Sat, 03 Aug 1996 04:00:00

   Hi,

I don't know where to start, but anyways, Okay, I have two computers,
one of the two computer works fine. No problem with the modem initilization
and it works normally. Now the other, which is a 28.8 Supra Express PnP has
problem from within GP2. What ever i tried the modem just keeps saying init
failed. Now, I tryed a different game and it works fine, but when i go into
Gp2 it dosen't work. By the way, my COM port is 3 and my Irq is 5. Maybe, Gp2
dosen't support modems that have IRQ 5? I've tried all sorts of different
init strings including the 'ATZ' string. The strange part is, the other
computer, where the modem works fine, has a com port of 3 and irq of 3, when
I go into GP2, com3 is greyed out but I can still select com port 2 and it
works fine. Any ideas on what the problem is?  Thanks for your time.....

I have a similar problem. I'm having trouble getting GP2 to recognize
my modem. It's also a PNP modem. In my system BIOS it shows the mouse
using com 1, and com 2 disabled. So what does the modem use? It works
fine running other applications in Windows 95, but fails to recognize
if I shut down and boot to Dos. The modem only works in some dos apps
run from a Dos window. I checked with my system manufacturer and no
Dos driver is in the works, in fact they say Dos is dead. ARGH! I
can't even modem race in Nascar! No more Hawaii! Any ideas people?
Besides breaking down and purchasing a new modem. Should I enable Com
2?

Thanks,

My modem is also on COM port 3 with INT 3 and I cannot get it to work.
If I
choose COM port 2, I get connected to my Bitsurfr Pro-not what I want.
Has
anyone had a chance to hack this part of the code so that COM 3 can be
associated with INT 3?

I have the same modem and am having the same problems. I'm not able to
check any of the com ports except com1 and my modem is on com2. All
the other games I have seem to work okay. I've tried all the modem
choices and nothing changes. I've tried some of the startup switches
and still nothing, although I did get it to startup with out the
opening sequence of music and pictures.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear them.

Mark
