Help with sidewinder wheel

by Gr?nsage » Mon, 29 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Does anyone know if you can change the response of the brake and throttle
pedal on the sidewinder wheel. because the pedals are much harder to control
than my old steering wheel. my lap times has dropped by one second and i
crash alot more.
i hope someone can help me.

Help with sidewinder wheel

by BendsMast » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I have two sedewinder wheels and one of them is brand new, the other
is few months old. A couple of weeks ago I started using the new one,
and the first thing I noticed was that the pedals were much harder to
control. But 2 weeks on (and about as many hours of GPL as you can fit
in... Vain hopes of racing on-line someday...) and the pedals are much
softer now, nearly as much as the old one. I guess this happens due to
the fact that is just new, I suppose.
By the way,the reason I have two wheels is because the old one started
an awful squeaking noise both on the pedals and the wheel after a lot
of use.
I've never used a steering wheel other than the sidewinder, and if the
sidewinder is the best wheel out there, then I would say  these wheels
have a long way to go before any good one comes to existence.
And another thing, without the force feedback effect -which is very
poor on games currently available, the sidewinder seems to me to be
nothing special and far too expensive, also the first one I bought
hasn't been reliable, let's see how far my second purchase goes.

Cheers

Help with sidewinder wheel

I was hopeless on the brakes untill I finally perfected a closed cell
foam bumper for the brake pedal.  Now they feel much more like real
brakes, you have to really push to get them to lockup.

Get yourself some cable ties and some tough but flexable closed cell
foam. Cut some triangles and poke the cableties thru the bottom and
attach to the bottom of the brake pedal thru the existing holes.

Expirement with shapes and weakening cuts until you like the feel,
spongyness and travel.

Works for me.
