The 1998 United Shorttrack Alliance will kick off its 1998 schedule on April
12, 1998. The series opener will be the Second Annual Spring Sizzler, at
Bristol Motor Speedway. The Sizzler is a 50-lap "festival of speed", this
year showcasing the USA's three divisions.
"Last year, we only had the Outlaw Late Models here," stated USA president
and founder Jimmy McKinley. "This year, we will have the N2 Modifieds and the
N2 Late Model Stock Cars. Some good cars have already shown an interest in
competing the full schedule. With the USA running opposite the IDRS, this
should allow drivers to compete in both series with no extra worries."
The USA Series, along with the IDRS and ICRS, becomes part of the 'Net's
fastest-growing sanctioning body, the Sim Stock Car Racing Association
(SSCRA).
"This should give us more exposure as far as getting known by Internet
racers looking for a true short track series," McKinley said. "We will not
race on anything over 3/4 mile, and our longest race is the All American 100
at Nashville in October. Most races will 30-40 laps, with a couple 25-lappers
and 50-lappers in there.
"Another departure from last year's ISTRS will be that the drivers will set
their own opponent strength (according to the rulebook, of course). This will
allow more inexperienced drivers to come into the USA Series and be
competitive. If one driver runs only, say, about 95%, and another, more
experienced racer runs at 100% or even 102%, then the 95% driverwill still
have a shot at winning theoverall title."
