Atmosphere: the combination of colour palette, updated graphics, sound and
the brilliant new***pits really put you in the seat, I think.
"Oh shit" moments: one develops a real sense of fear with this game. Beads
of sweat will form on your brow any time you are faced with a 5th gear
corner or chicane. Maybe it's because things happen a little more slowly
when it all goes wrong. You have a moment or two to contemplate your fate
before you finally hit.
Wheel to wheel racing: The slidy, softly-sprung cars really let you go side
by side through several corners. The ability to look left and right (if you
are dexterous) lets you keep tabs on your opponent and race cleanly.
Constant improvement: You will always get better with more practice.
Beautiful car models: Now that there are cars like the GPLEA Eagle, your jaw
will drop each time you watch a replay.
Nice force feedback: You know what the front tires and back tires are
doing.
Crazy racetracks: 1960s F1 drivers had cajones. Big ones. I still shake
my head (and grin like an idiot) as I fling myself around some of these
tracks.
And that's just the joys of off-line racing...

p.s. most of the same applies to F1-2001, which is getting a lot of my
precious spare time now. The cars are of course much different in their
reactions, but you can "play" with the car the same way you can in GPL (and
in ways you can't with GP3, my former favourite) and really fell the
front-end grip.
