Is SCGT available in the UK? I've heard so much about it in these newsgroups
but I havn't seen it in any shops. If not, can anyone recommend a decent
mail order site?

Thanks

I'd avoid the game really... if you've got GPL and TOCA2 you're sorted
because SCGT isn't as good as either of them.

TOCA2 better than SCGT ?
Is there a career mode in one of them ?

Yeah there's one in SCGT but it still doesn't stop it from being a worse
racing sim/game than TOCA2. SCGT is so close but yet so far from being a
good sports car sim and even further from being a good racing sim/game.

That's definitely a matter of opinion. Even although I enjoy BTCC more
than GT racing I find SCGT far more fun to drive and race than TOCA2.
Neither is particularly wonderful and neither is horrendously bad - it
just depends which one appeals to your joy department.

Cheers!

SCGT with the advanced options patch set to "Pure Sim and Slick Grass"
is the most sim-ish.  There is nothing like taking your Mustang GT2 or
Panoz out for a spin or 2 at Mosport!  My experience with TOCA2 is only
with the demo, but it felt too easy to drive, IMHO.   If you like easy
to drive, SCGT does that too with the original physics so you can have
the best of both worlds.  It sure is a blast with up to 7 drivers on the
net (cable or ADSL is strongly recommended).

TOCA 2 has NO representation of understeer when cornering.  I've spent
a LOT of time on it the last week or so, and since the game also
includes  "skid pad" track it allowed me to experiment with the
physics model.  I'll immediately add that the physics model alone
doesn't make or break the game, but so you know, TOCA 2has no
cornering understeer whatsoever.  The only tires that lose grip are
the rears, and they will do it with little provocation.  If you want
realism in the physics model, TOCA 2 is inferior to SCGT.  As far as
the overall comparisons?  Well, hang in there, I'll be done with the
review in the next day or two.

Andy

Some people just can not answer a simple question.

Yes - SCGT is available in the UK, in fact I picked up the box in PC World,
(London -Moorgate branch), only this afternoon. Therefore find out where
your nearest PCW is and give them a ring.

Have fun

Thanks guys, maybe i'll pop along and have a look for it. Seems to have
mixed reviews but driving at night in a Panoz seems too much to resist....

I had trouble getting a copy but PC World seem to have it now, my local Game
store don't.

Also mailorder, Gameplay might, see PC mags for Gameplay ad no web site
though. I haven't found a decent UK based web retailer. If someone knows of
one please tell me too.

Hey, Randy.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this flaw in a game that could
have been much better (just my opinion folks - I don't like TOCA2, I do like
SCGT, simple as that).  The game seems artificially difficult to me in that
respect.  Watch motorsport on TV.  Generally, if you head into a corner too
fast, you'll understeer off into the kitty litter.  I can't think of one
form of four wheeled, tarmac circuit based racing where this isn't true.
Try it in TOCA2 and what will happen, or maybe I should say what -appears-
to happen is that the front will dig in and make the turn while the rear
loses grip, sending you into a spin.
That puts me right off the product.  That, and the way the car rockets to
it's top speed and bounces off it's rev limiter in top.  I'm guessing that's
a way of keeping laptimes down - not allowing you to set the car up so that
it only tops out at the very fastest part of the circuit.  I suppose if
setups allowed that then we'd have 190mph super tourers!

I'll add that I'm definately in a minority by not liking this title, so to
anyone thinking of buying it, don't let me put you off - try a demo or
borrow a friends copy (what I did).  To those who own and enjoy TOCA2, carry
on.  I wish I did, because I'd like another closed wheel sim.  I tried it
(gave it a good chance, too) and wanted to like it, but it just didn't 'pump
my nads'.  I don't want to start another SCGT vs TOCA2 flamefest.

As above AND...

SCGT is not what to ask for (or look on the box for).  You probably already
know this, but just in case, it actually stands for Sports Car GT.  It's by
EA and has a head on photo of a BMW M3 on the box.

BTW, got mine from PC World in Reading.

I think you forgot that a btcc car is a front wheel-drive: the front
wheels lose grip before the rear when you are too fast in a turn.
But TOCA2 is not a sim : too easy and easier with a keyboard than with
a wheel. And TOCA2 is graphically(?) ugly compared to SCGT.
