GPL: Ferrari develop satellite booster!

?sterreichring, Friday 11th. February.

During practise for the major event this coming weekend, Lorenzo Bandini's
312 Ferrari lost a front wheel and left the track at the Rindt Kurve,
passing through the rusty Armco guard-railing like a hot knife through
butter. The surprised driver continued in his efforts to gain some control
over the wayward vehicle when suddenly the Ferrari came into contact with
The Edge of the World, with spectacular results.

Residents in the surrounding countryside up to 5 kilometres away, not to
mention everybody at the track, heard the dual explosions as Bandini and his
car left the ground and soared skywards, somersaulting in an arc back
towards the circuit.  In an amazing display of pyrotechnics, and in complete
disregard for the Laws of Natural Physics, the combination was surrounded by
a cloud of debris and car-body parts  as it travelled trough the northern
heavens before coming to rest somewhere out of sight behind a billboard
hoarding. Driver Scott Stoddart, racing this year with the Jordan BRM team,
was so startled by the event that he lost control of his sleek racing
machine and crashed into a flag marshall, fortunately without serious injury
to either party.

Jack Brabham commented wryly that he hadn't seen or heard anything like what
he had just witnessed for well over a 14 months, when it was not uncommon to
see cars zooming from the tarck and either returning to earth ablaze or
sitting in a geosynchronous orbit spinning on their axes. Said Jack "Makes
you wonder if about the ***y safety of this flamin' track, eh?"

Clerk of the Course Helmet Bogle brought Practice to a halt whilst search
parties were sent into the woods to retrieve the remains of both Bandini and
his Ferrari.  However, after a fruitless two-hour search, during which one
of the volunteers was gored by a wild boar, the authorities declared Bandini
and Ferrari "missing, feared deleted" and the session continued.
