How long do Force feedback wheels last ??

I just got my force feedback wheel from logitech, and with all of the
jarring and pulling the wheel induces I was wondering how long these wheels
last under normal use ?

I don't know about the current model, but my LWFF is two years old and still
works fine.

My original Wingman FF is about 2 years old also, and still holding up
well. I will say that I probably don't use it as much as some here...
Gererally just a couple hours a week. It is plugged in and ready to go
24/7 though.

I think it depends a lot on how you treat them. I'm pretty gentle with
my steering inputs, but when my buddy first tried it, he was a spaz -
jamming the wheel to the stops to over-compensate for lack of control
and pulling fore and aft on it like a frigging ape.
I bet you wouldn't get a year out of any FF wheel if it was used like
that every day.

I don't allow relative novices to even touch my wheel. I keep an analog TM
NasPro for this purpose.<g>

Even though I try to curb the tendency, I am prone to muscling the car
around and the LWFF has stood up to that so far. I probably use it for about
5 hours a week and also have it plugged in all the time.

Two and a half year of MSFF abuse. Still going strong, however I have
to solder the plug for the cable to the pedals from time to time.

I bought a ms ff wheel when it was first released. It still works. I bought
a ferrari force feedback 6 months ago. It has broken twice already...

I've got two and a half years out of a MSFF, gets on average 4 hours a week
use.  No problems to date.  Seems like they're fairly robust.

I've got a MSFFW with over a year's use on it and if anything its gotten
smoother.  Probably the gears wearing in :)

The hardware of the MSFFW is very strong.

It's a shame MS won't do anything with the drivers, though :(

Olly,
don't know whether you got the new (GP) or the old LWFF.
For the old LWFF I can give you some idea:

steering pot lasts miniumum one year, considered you race less than 48 hours a
day ;-) This depends for sure on ambient temperature and humidity

Cables don't give you problems for years, until you open the wheel and feel the
urge to exchange those ugly and deformed things.

In several cases the throttle pot gives up (spiking), which leads to the famous
80% throttle phenomenon. Changing brake against throttle pot helps.

The diaphragm shifter switches can give up after 2 years by crack. Suddenly you
lose that crisp feeling on the shifter paddle, function is still up for some
time.

The plastic bushings (those squeeking thingies) last for 20 years, only get
looser during time. A Ball bearing converted wheel adds another estimated 280
years to the lifespan, at no increasing slack.

Resumee:
There are some parts which wear out during time.
pots die sometimes after one year, sometimes they last forever. Same for the
paddle switches.
For these parts and also the cables high quality 3rd party replacement is
available. Unluckily Logitech doesn't give a s..t about after sales customer
service.

BTW: Also check out the LWFF-forum, a lot of info over there
