I don't know why this option is even in there. After all, why would
anyone want to try and qualify using race tyres. It affects my lap
times by at least 3 seconds.

All of your tires are the same.  The bottom row are
simply the specific tires to be used during the race.
The improvement in lap times, I believe, comes from
a little added horsepower during qualifying.  The
default settings for the AI cars have 10-15 more hp
during qualifying than during the race.

Thanks for the clarification. I should have realized of course that
qualifying tyres aren't used in F1 anymore! :)
