GPL install on Windows ME

by paulo_paul » Mon, 05 Feb 2001 03:51:49

I just bot GPL,  French edition.
My computer is a Pentium800,128 mb ram, ProphetII Gts Pro board, running on
Windows Me.
When I try to install GPL, It does the sound test, I listen the wonderfull
engine sound, everything OK. Then when isntall is really about to start, It
says that I do not have the proper
CD in, which is not the case.
E-mailed Sierra, and the reply was as simple as: "we do not recomment our
product on Windows Me". Altough a friend of mine installed the game on his
computer, with windows Me
without any problem.
I have other computer at home, and old P133 running out of HD space, on
Windows 95.
Tried to install there, just to make sure that there's nothing wrong with
the CD, and the installation starts OK there (I had to stop due to the lack
of disk space).
What can I do to overcome this? Suppose that if able to go trough this
"barrier" which says that the inserted CD is not the right one, the install
will go ok. But how?? HELP.

Sounds like a problem I've encountered before with other programs when I
try & install from my cd-burner.  If you have a regular cd drive as
well, try using that.  If this doesn't pertain to you, then... carry on.

I've had similar problems with other games, such as Alpha Centauri, etc.
It's a copy protection scheme aimed at twarting CD burners. However, if your
only CD-ROM drive is a CD burner, then you are out of luck. However, you can
go to gamecopyworld.com and download an executable that doesn't check your
cd drives for anything.

Yousuf/Fester, I got it installed. How??
May sound stupid that I didn't try it before, but I did install it using
the DVD player....
But thanks to both of you, without yr heads up that the problem was with
the cd burner
I wud still be blaming Windows Me...

Don't know... but really never had any other problem with any other
cd (game or not) than GPL. And now GPL already installed, then...
