From one of my Bathurst tapes :-), "History of Bathurst" or something
like that, 3 180 min tapes from the early days to the present (96 I
think)

Server space isn't a problem, bandwidth is, having a 500 MB file up for
DL would kill any other activity on that line for quite a while

Besides, I'm not sure it would lose much in quality, I used an ordinary
TV tuner card to record it off my VCR and the tapes aren't the best
quality, but I could always burn it to a CD for you if you want it, or
you could borrow the tapes, after all I'm due to have look at the Mini
again one of these days :-)

That's kinda what I thought, now tell me how to do this Andre and I'll
promise you a first look...:-)

Hey Goy, this stuff is really pretty easy. All you need is VirtualDub,
I can email it to you if you want. Easy to use, converts video to
divx, and audio to mp3. Or whatever other format you want.

I can give you quick instructions if you like, there are lots of
websites that have more detailed info as well.

Doesn't take long to learn how to rip an entire 100min DVD into a
700MB divx with minimal quality loss. That does take some processing
time mind you :)

Can this VirtualDub be used to split mpeg or avi files into more
parts?

Opening laps of 94 Bathurst is now posted here

http//www.thenorwaypits.com/temp/94Bath.wmv

25 MB thx to MS's Mediaplayer tools, some quality has been lost, but the
original quality was nothing to write home about in the first place, I
don't have unlimited bandwidth on this server, so please be patient :-)

I'm not sure about copyrights and things on stuff like this, hopefully I
won't get a call from some lawyer for posting this clip :-)

That would be very cool Rafe, a few pointers to web sites to get me
started would be much appreciated, you can use this addy, yes, I've
finally gotten DSL here :-)

I did this one using the WindowsMediaPlayer tools from MS, very easy to
use, but also a bit limited in the options perhaps, but perfect for this
particular job, however I'm always eager to learn something new and I've
been kinda bitten by the video bug now :-), wonder how long it will take
before I replace this ElCheapo cpature/tuner card with something
decent....

Oh, I have a few CPU cycles to spare.....:-), currently there are about
15 servers/PC's here donating their spare CPU cycles to UD (www.ud.com),
might as well put them to good use :-)

And how would you download such a thing without a 'split-aware' client?

By recombining the parts... is there one newslcient on the planet which
can't do this? -Ok, it's a pain in OE, but Agent, e.g., handles that sort of
thing very well.

Yep, no problems with all that stuff. You just select where you want
it to start and end, chop bits off, whatever.

Every time I've been tempted to use Agent, it doesn't do something that I need
to do at the time.  I usually try the free version, so maybe that's the
problem.  But the free version has thus far failed to convince me that the
retail version is worthwhile...

Whopping good show Goy!

This tape I gotta copy!   Care to trade it for a copy of the 1988 race?
