Ok, I've been using Paint Shop Prop 5.2 beta (?) and I like it but I
am having problems importing the car back into N2.  I open the pcx file,
increase color depth to 16 million, do my thing, decrease the color depth
back down to 256k, load the n2 palette (under "Load palette") but when
I import it, it is read as a corrupted palette.  I thought tha if you load
the palette right after you increase the depth, they cancel each other out
and you don't get to use (clone brush, drop shadow, etc).  Mike's Nascar
World said in 4.1X you have to cut and copy a piece from another file but
the instructions were confusing.  Does anyone know the solution to this?

it is my understanding you should not change the color setting (16m) to the
orginal car pcx file. I only change the size ratio while i'm drawing. When i
want to add a decal on the car i create a separate file for the decal using
16m color, then back it down to 256, then load the color palette against the
decal file. When i done I copy and paste the decal onto the car.pcx file.  I
never use the color palette against the orginal car.pcx file.

Hope this helps

I had this problem myself with the palette.
Here's a workaround :

   - export your car or any other car from within the game
   - paint your car in PSP
   - when you're done painting copy your car to clipboard( just the car
and not the magenta or pink border ) and paste it into the first
PCX from the game on the old car .
   - save the PCX
