GPL: AI on Championship race

Yesterday I drove a full championship race on Monza, first time I made
the finish. I got 2nd place, Clark 1st.
Clark was constantly about 2 tenths of a second faster per lap than
me. This didn't upset me too much, since I read lots of messages on
RAS that the AI had problems passing other cars and it would be easy
to catch up wit Hill and Clark at the end of the race while they're
stuggling to pass the other AI cars.

Well, Clark had no problems passing the other AI cars whatsoever.
Sometimes it took him an extra second, but I lost some time passing
other AI cars too.

Clark won well deserved, and I was glad that the AI passing problems
were not there.
Is this because of the patch (1.2) or were those stories about AI
passing problems simply not true?

The stories are true. Monza is simply the easiest track for
the top AI to pass the slower cars. Start a GP race at say
Mosport, exit and accelerate time until you see someone is
about to be lapped and then watch Clark and Hill struggle.

That's nothing. Once while viewing the AI race at Monaco Hill had a
mechanical failure which had him crawling around the track for a good half
of the race - with the whole field behind him.

Oooppps.  That's the kind of thing only phenomenal beta testing can catch.

Marc.
