Graphics Problem With TnT 2

by Jerr » Mon, 10 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Just installed GPL with no problems but the graphics leave a lot to be
desired.  I have a PIII 500--128MB Ram--13 GB HD and a Diamond TNT 2
V770 32 MB AGP video card. Resolution tops out at  640 X 480. 3D
Acceleration options are 3Dfx, None or Rendition. Can anyone tell me
if their is any way to obtain better graphics using my TNT 2 card?
Sim is great but any help with graphics would be greatly appreciated.

You must download the OpenGL patch from www.papy.com.
Also use nvidia reference drivers 2.08 or higher for your card.
Set the buffer flipping mode to block transfer. 3.53 drivers let you do this
via control panel, else you must change FlipControl in the registry from 2
to 0.

Bart,
Thanks for the speedy reply. This is what I have done so far with
help:
installed  "gpl 1.2" patch
installed  "opengl.zip"
Accidently did the above in reverse order?? Opengl first and gpl 1.2
second.
No improvement at all everything stayed the same.
I have the  nvidia 3.53 driver, went into control panel but can not
find the "buffer flipping mode" to change.
Can you tell me just where this item is?
Appreciate your time in order to help.
Thanks---Jerry---

search backwards in the newsgroup or check deja for the registry key.  read
the readme for the opengl patch.  sounds like you should reapply the opengl
patch.

You'll have to do some registry editing.

In the Start menu, choose "Run". Type in "regedit". Then click your way to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL], or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0001\NVi
dia\OpenGL]

In one of these folders, change the value of the "FlippingControl" setting
in the registry to "0".

Jon

Depending on the driver version, this setting can be found in

Nothing takes effect until you choose openGL in the properties page
and then restart the game.

Thanks for that. I tried to sort it out last week, but was obviously day
dreaming and missed something. This time around - worked like a charm.
Here's to many hours of flicker free GPL time...sweeet!

Cheers

Thanks to all  [Dave, Bart, Peter and Jon] appreciate the help.
Obviously I messed up somewhere along the line during the installation
of "openGL" and  "GPL 1.2" patch. I re-installed openGL as advised and
now it works fine.   All I have to do now is learn how to drive these
machines. Thanks again as I was ready to return GPL to store and would
have without all of your help.
