Blocky, coarse graphics with TNT.... HELP!

by Jay » Sun, 07 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I've noticed a problem after installing a STB Velocity 4400 TNT card....

Games like ToCA and F1RS that use D3D seem to have very fuzzy, coarse text
when you go any screen that displays graphics as well as text (IE, in F1RS
during the intro before a race, when it displays the drivers/teams in the
grid).

I've also noticed VERY blocky textures surrounding the tires in F1RS as
well!

I'm running DX 6.1, have the Nvidia Detonator drivers and am running Win98
on a PII 266 with 64 meg of RAM.

Anyone else experience this problem??? What did you do to solve/resolve
it???

I've tried playing around with the D3D, Color and OpenGL settings in the
display driver control panel, but even with best quality set (rather than
best performance) it doesn't seem to make much difference.

I also tried running the Nvidia .48 reference drivers but same story... Not
sure if this was / is caused by the Detonator drivers, and perhaps once
their loaded, they install or change something that using a different set of
drivers doesn't fix or ????

I'm stumped!

Anyone with suggestions or similar problems? I'd love to hear from ya!

Thank you
Jay J

For MGPRS2 (sequel to F1RS), in the Display Properties->TNT
Properties->Additional TNT Properties->Direct3D window, set "Automatically
generate 0 mipmap levels" and ensure that "Allow mipmap dithering" is not
checked.

Also, I found that MGPRS2 looked a lot worse using the new Detonator
drivers - the reference 0.48 drivers look much better.  As well, I did not
notice any framerate increase using the Detonator drivers.

Got the same problem with Superbike World Championship. Can;t say I have seen
the problem elsewhere. I will install a copy of my registry from before I
installed the Detonator drivers and let you know the result.
