Has anyone who actually races (or has raced) karts tried this sim? Is the
driving model realistic?

I think it's pretty far off from being realistic.. The Tach and temp
gauges and speed seem to be correct but overall feel of the kart still
needs some work.  Of course I raced lay down karts for 4 years, and
they are way different the upright karts..

I've driven go-karts similar to these, and generally speaking I think the
real thing has more grip and more responsive steering.  Doesn't make it a
bad game though, although I wouldn't spend 35 on it.  It's quite fun,
although it needed more tracks.

ROFL!!! Super 1 Karting is about the most pathetic karting game out there.
I've been racing karts for 5 years now and I've never driven one that handles
and reacts like that. My advice is to save your money:-)

not at all, main problem is the steering response, it's just too slow. Its a
fun game that does many things right, but the physics are terrible.

Is that before or after the deadzone tweak?  Just curious.

You can get more responsive steering by changing the deadzone in your gp.cfg
file

Well I cant tell you as I have only raced indoor karts, but amyway the
game is real fun even if it isnt realistic as some are saying, there
is a slight deadzone on my USB MS Wheel but I have learnt to put
up with it and I dont really notice anymore. Other than that im really
enejoying the game, simple to get in to 2 modes of play arcade &
simulation the racing is very tight and tense with the AI set higher
than rookie, tracks are based on real life tracks and look as good as
SBK 2000 in res higher than 640x480.

Anyway as i said it may not be realistic in its driveing model, but
hell it sure is fun to play, and to me that in the end is what it's
all about.

Hi,
I've been fooling around with some of the settings in the various files in
the demo, but can't get any better framerate. The good thing is that on the
Geforce the framerate is more or less the same in 1024x768 as in 640x480
with all graphics on and it's not too bad. The annoying thing is the
simulation of the bumpy surface. It's the same as in SBK2000 and realistic
or not it's only annoying and makes bad framrates seem worse. I like the
game and it will be a fun game to drive over LAN with my two racing buddies
(if the network code is good...)

cya,
Hans-Otto

Super Mario karts.

It's more fun and doesn't pretend to be something it's not <G>

Ok, maybe responsive was the wrong word.  The steering is too vague.  It's
hard to be accurate with you racing line.  It doesn't feel much like a real
kart to me, but thats not a criticism, i don't think the developer was
aiming for 100% realism.  Like I said before, it's a bit of harmless arcade
fun and it's a nice game.

I'd have to agree.

When you watch the TV view in replay or whatever the karts look as though
they handle fairly realistically.
The problem is that this is the only basis that some so called "sims" have
to work with it seems.

Watching the TV views it replicates reality but  the in car action is not
quite accurate.

It sorta looks like they tape an afternoons racing on Eurosport and worked
from that.
The reason is that the karts "appear" to handle as they should, the problem
is that you have to have another style of driving from this to real karts.

I know for a fact that especially with FF on, that at the first corner of
PFI you should have a number of stresses on the kart.

Firstly, You should feel the lack of grip. Well maybe not lack, but the back
end likes to swing a little.
The kart should feel as if its dragging left. It should be generally hard to
handle.

If you look at it in the TV view it gives that impression but while you are
driving all you need to is keep the wheel locked right.

Again, the karts at times seem to need opposite lock from TV views...... in
kart? NO WAY!

Its a nice representation and PFI is modelled very well but the physics need
tweaking to be more sensitive, GPL like if you will.

Finally, someone else who knows the thrill of enduro kart racing. There's
nothing like going 100mph when you head is about a foot off the pavement ;-)
