We should protest!
The new issue of CGW is terrible...it's nearly unreadable.
Too bad it's *still* the best magazine, despite this ineptitude.

Well, if PC Gamer gives Grand Prix Lgends higher score, then...
I dunno.  But I still don't trust people who gives Outpost an 88%

That's why I stopped buying CGW or any other magazine...
Can get the same biased ***from many free online *** pages.

Mix the NGs and I have a free look into what is really hot and what is
not.

BTW...GPL gives me that same buzz as the original NASCAR. Ther are not
perfect (better then any other IMHO), but they are simply the right
mix between sim and game.

Shame that they neglected a paintkit though, is Sierra so short of
money that they have to do this in order to sell us updates etc?

Will Nascar '99 have a paint kit?

(any plans for a more freindly paint method in GPL, a la Papyrus
originals?)

Will reserve judgement till I get my issue (today?).  Note that CPR was
reviewed by someone other than their usual auto sim reviewer (Goble).  Don't
know who did NFS3.  Was it reviewed as a sim, or as an action game?  I'd guess
the latter.  I doubt they would compare it to GPL, CPR, etc.

Yes, online you can get the ***faster and cheaper :-) I still like CGW.
I hope you don't expect any review to be unbiased.

I don't take someone not being as impressed by something not of my handiwork
as personally (well, I try not to).

I would guess that only about 10% of the people who buy the games are even
TALENTED enough to repaint the cars.  Sadly, I'm not IN that group.

With the .dat extractor and .mip-to-.bmp converter, you can use
your favorite paint program to make cars in GPL.  gpl.gamestats.com
has some nice paintjobs available -- correct paint jobs for the
Honda and the Coopers (including Siffert's blue one), as well as
applications to add drivers who did more competing in 1967 but
who simply weren't licensed for the sim (e.g., Jackie Stewart),
as well as change references to Coventry and Murasama to real-life
cars Cooper and Honda.  The result of all the addons is one more
BRM and one less Eagle, but that just means more drivers I might
be competitive with soon!  I'm still hoping there'll be a Chris
Amon paint job available soon; apparently his independent BRM
had a different paint job than the others.

I have my own paint jobs for the Cooper and Honda.  The Cooper
is nothing special, but I spent quite a bit of time on the Honda.
I took an existing Honda paint scheme for the #7 car and changed
the numbers to 4, removed the red sun from the top of the cowling
(carefully, to keep all the rivets and ducts in the paint scheme
in white/gray), and instead made a bigger red sun on the nose
(again, making sure to keep the rivets and seams intact, just in
shades of red instead of shades of gray), and put the numeral 4
inside it in white.  It's quite nice, if perhaps just the tiniest
bit too modern of a design idea.

Goble did the review of GPL, also. Guess the boys at CGW don't have
the in-house talent to review true racing Sims. That certainly makes
me less receptive to their magazine.

I liked Goble's review of the game. It seemed to be pretty fair.

I was unclear, Goble is their auto sim reviewer.  CPR was reviewed by the
"other than", Scott May.

I hope this clearup makes you less "less receptive" :-)

Your point is interesting.  Seems the major mags tap into two or three flight
sim reviewers who are true afficionados and also sometimes have real
seat-time.  Auto sims haven't seemed to garner that dedication yet.  But we
seem to be in a racing sim glut right now (well, mostly arcadish games with a
few *** sims).  Maybe we'll see them get a little more special attention?
CGW did do a preview of them in the Dec issue, but I'd say it was
particularly, and for them unusually,  poorly researched and rushed.

Does it take out Richie Ginther (who drives an Eagle in GPL)?  This
would make sense since he only entered one race all year (Monaco) and
failed to qualify.

Chris Amon drove the Ferrari all year in 1967. Were you thinking of
Chris Irwin or Piers Courage perhaps?

Yes, and replaces some other drivers who had less seat time
that year than others.  These addons come with driver photos
for the team info screen, and car photos for the Cooper and
Honda (but not logos, yet).  Do back up your existing gpl.exe
first, though.  When I put in a bunch of addons all at once,
for some reason the game wouldn't load anymore.  Added a few
at a time, trying to find the problem, I ended up with all
the ones (all the ones I wanted, anyway) without problem.

er, whoops.  Irwin, I meant!
