F!GP freezes up on load!

by Thump » Tue, 24 Jan 1995 11:02:42

New to F1GP and new to this group and already got a big problem:

Just installed the program on my machine and all was well - but when I try to
start the program F1GP.EXE I get the intro graphics and sound and then nada -
nyet - zip - black screen of death.  If I just run GP I go straight to BSOD...

HELP!  Could it be a conflict with Doublespace on DOS 6.20???  The manual
provides very little trouble shooting info and I figured before I go try to
kill myself figuring it out I'd ask if anyone has an obvious solution.  Here's
some other possibly relevant info:

486-DX33 clone with AMI BIOS and 4 Meg RAM
120 meg IDE drive partitioned 50/50 with doublespace drive D:
Game installed on uncompressed partition (C:)
Trident 8900 video card - 1 meg
No sound card or joystick

Any help is appreciated - email me if you have any grand ideas...

TIA - Thumper

My guess is insufficient free conventional RAM.

Thumper:

You don't have enough conventional memory freed up on your
computer... F1GP is one of the few currently avail. games that won't
alert you of such.  I had the same problem when I first got the game -
you need to use the DOS command memmaker, and set it to scan upper
memory aggressively.  If you've already done that and still have the
problem, then it's time to set up multiple boot configurations for
your system - you can then select one on start-up.  It's pretty
easy - consult your DOS manual.  You want a "barebones" startup that
doesn't load any unnecessary TSR's, etc...
