For those of us who live and breathe GPL, and theres alot of us, the show
Ringmasters will be on Legends of Motorsport on Speedvision tonight at 6:30
EST.  Its entinely about the 1967 German Grand Prix at the Ring so its a
perfect fit to GPL.  I for one will DEFINATELY be setting my VCR for this one
:)

I watched it and I also watched the 1999 F1 season review where they showed
some footage of Brabham in a Cooper circa 1959 or 1960 or both.  Anyway,
what I think I noticed (one film isn't enough to really be conclusive) is
that the '67 cars are nowhere near as tail-happy as GPL would have us
believe.  I think I only saw about two shots of somebody with the rear-end
stepping out and even those were just slight wiggles that were quickly
corrected.  The "Brabham in the Cooper" footage looked alot more like GPL to
me.

Well, that's just more proof that GPL is actually not real sim--after all,
only 40,000 copies were sold, so that proves it sucks . . .

David G.  Fi __

WAIT!!  Just kidding!  Thought I'd jump in there before a certain rally
monster did!  Actually, I think you're right, Todd, about the abundance of
tail-happy driving in GPL (online anyway) versus the real thing.  But then,
most of the really quick hotlap replays I've seen have been characterized by
very clean driving . . .

LOL!!! You really had me there! After reading the first line, I
allready thought 'there's David again...' :)))
Indeed, they didn't drive their cars as Huttu does, but I wonder what
would have happened if Huttu had been born 30 years earlier... He
would have kicked Clark's ass :)

BTW anyone know how people who are fortunate enough not to live in the US,
can enjoy this program? Holland, in particular

I wouldn't of responded to Todd's post because I've never been able to get
many people here to actually admit, and discuss why, the real life '67 cars
didn't fishtail like the GPL cars with their incredible, perfectly modeled,
can never be equaled, physics engine.

Because the real life '67 cars were driven by real life '67 F1
drivers that were competing in a 2+ hours long Grand Prix, and not a
bunch of Shift-R hot lappers?
Compare the 1967 season driving with the GPL driving style of somebody
who is able to finish a full GPL Grand Prix season in Pro Mode. I
think these "***-simmers" have to drive as carefully as the real
pilots.
Or put some of the hotlappers in a a real 1967 F1 car, and see how
they are doing ...

I ordered the video from Duke. The part about the Ring is about 1/2
hours, the rest of the tape contains other racing footage from the
past. Well worth the money.

Ah, there you are :)
Nobody ever said that the physics engine of GPL can't be equaled or
improved, ofcourse it can. But it's simply the best model available in
any racing sim.
I loved RC2000, but haven't played it for a couple of weeks, i got
bored with it. GPL still keeps my interest after playing it more than
a year, a couple of hours every day. Shaving off a tenth of a second
in GPL gives me much more satisfaction than shaving it off in RC2000.

Do you still play RC2000?

Well, doesn't that figure. They just got around to adding Speedvision here
.... a day after they show Ringmasters.  Impeccable timing.

Hope its on again soon..
