Could somebody please remind me which windows system file it is that gets
screwed up when installing CMR2 so I can back it up first.

I've installed CMR in W2K twice and WXP twice... I've never heard of this.
Is this a Win9x problem??

Dale.

hid.dll

You should be able to avoid a problem using system file checker to
restore it after installing CMR2.

Yes Dale it probably is just a win98 thing, what happens is that after
installing CMR2 the steering wheel/joystick that worked perfectly before
woul'nt work anymore, I belive in some cases it would always say "not
connected" in game controllers.
As Jason in the post below reminded me it's hid.dll and all you have to do
is back it up, install CMR2 then restore it with system file checker and
your sorted.

By a remarkable coincidence I bought and installed CMR2
over the weekend, and although it worked perfectly to start
with, my wheel now does not work with any wheel game and
the Control Panel Game controller set up does not even run.
I guess I am having the same problem - net Karma, or what ?

Could you just explain how to restore this file (what is
"system file checker" ?).

Thank you

John

I hadn't heard of this problem before, but I've got CM2 installed under W2K
and all my Sticks/Pads are working fine.

Spooky :o), for system file checker click on Start, Run then type sfc and
hit enter, choose "Extract one file from installation disk", then browse to
C:\windows\system\hid.dll and click start, make sure the restore from box
reads D:\win98 (asuming your CDRom is D that is), and the save file in box
reads "C:\windows\system", stick your windows 98 CD in and click OK.

Codemasters has this documented on their website with a how to fix doc. They
denied it was their game doing it when I emailed them and gave them supreme
shit about it. It doesn't affect Win2K/XP because they are protected
operating systems and won't let some two-bit game overwrite system files.
