Radeon 9700 Continues to Impress

Maybe, but I have a theory on all this...

I firmly believe that when a card manufacturer releases their new, 'fastest'
card, it's replacement is basically already done and in the later stages of
tweaking.

If you remember, the NV30 was delayed by nVidia.

I think it's possible that nVidia saw what the 9700 could do, and what was
_supposed_ to be the NV30 was not released.  Instead, they are digging into
what would have been the successor to the NV30, and thus the reason for the
delay.

Just a theory :)

nVidia would never release a card that's slower than anything currently on
the market.  Not in this day of competition.

Hey, you gotta problem with that???!!   ;)

I'm not admitting anything here when I tell you that my 9700 Pro outperforms
my wife.   ('s videocard.)

Possible, but if it was a bit slower than a 9700 Pro, price it at $349 and
all of the loyal nvidia users would still buy it.  Right now, ATI is only
taking away market share from Nvidia and will only take more away the longer
nvidia goes without having some product to sell.  Even the loyal nvidia
users are switching to ATI because they have no other choice.  Heck, there
were so many people in this newsgroup who said originally they were going to
wait for nv30 but after the delay, many of them have given up the waiting
and bought ATI.

Through www.pricewatch.com you can find this card at almost 100 bucks
cheaper than the suggested retail price of 399.

Myself, I'm not loyal to any corporation.

Whoever provides the best product at the best price and provides reasonable
support gets my money at any one particular purchase point.

I was waiting for the 9700 Pro AIW.  I was going to buy one as soon as it
hit the street.  The talk was it wasn't neutered like previous AIW's have
been.

But, alas, ATI figured out a way to***it up anyway, and I won't buy one
now.

The AIW version doesn't support dual-displays :(  Damn them!
