Should I get a Voodoo3?

I currently have a Pentum I 233MMX with a Voodoo I card.
I cannot currently afford to upgrade my processor but an just about
scrape enough money together to get a Voodoo3 3000 PCI graphics card -
question is, will this give me a significant increase in performance,
especially on games like Colin McRae Rally / TOCA2 etc.

It will probably help some, but with a V3, your pc is going to be the
bottleneck in your graphics.  I would suggest buying your V3 locally at a
store that will let you return the card if you aren't happy with it, or
maybe charge a modest restocking fee.

Should I get a Voodoo3?

I have the same processor with 64MB RAM, but thought that the V3 needed more
processor to work well.  Instead, I upgraded my 4MB Voodoo1 Monster 3D
Graphics card with a 12MB V2 1000 PCI two weeks ago and the improvement is
tremendous!   I went from about 22-26 fps in GPL training mode to 32-36 fps
with the V2.  In the Viper Racing benchmark test, with all options on high I
was getting 25.9 fps with the Voodoo1 card.  Got 38.4 fps with the V2 card.

I got the V2 card for $68.95 on buy.com including shipping, and there's a
$30 rebate from 3dfx.  Well worth it, obviously.

Get a V2 card with your system. I just installed one in my old 233 at work
to run GPL at lunch<vbg>...it runs great! I have to run fewer cars and less
detail than I do here at home, but it runs just fine. Fry's has been selling
V2 pci cards recently for $49.00.

I've got an unused Voodoo 2 12Meg which I'd happily sell you if you want
to go that route.  I'm in the UK so that helps :-).  30 to you!  That
goes to anyone else in the UK too, by the way!
