Have followed every instruction there is, spent 2 hours on phone with
HP support (long distance), to find out about disabling the onboard
ideo adapter.

Tried this tried that tried lighting candles and dancing in a circle.

to no avail. all I can get is a windows protection error/reboot it
message and then can only get into safe mode.

Machine is an HP 8655C
128MB ram
30G HD.
Piii 533MHz
on board video is Intel(R) 810e Chipset Graphics Driver (DC133 FSB133)
PV 2.1
Direct Draw 1.00
Software Version 4.0
current files: i81xdw.drv, *vdd,*vflatd,i81x.vxd,i81xDD.DL

Running a Viewsonic 21PS Monitor.

Followed instructions, but instead of getting the info pages it gives
license info, select ok and get error "no more files" hit ok and it
loads a bunch of stuff to windows, get error again, hit ok and it
redoes the files and auto reboots then throws the protection error.

If reconnect to the original port get no video till remove the voodoo
card from pc and from profiles then reboot and let it redetect the
intel card and reinstall directx7.

Have tried autodetect, search of windows/system, and manual force load
of driver from cd.

It shows the voodoo card and the driver in the pc system but won't get
into windows except in safe mode with it.

card is installed for all attempts in pci slot 1.

System runs Pheonix bios.

No way in bios to disable the intel chipset, but does have setting to
force pci1 to be pci bus master for control.

Tried that with tech and it didn't work.

In fact we tried so many things that they gave me an email addy to
send fix info to if ever get it working.

Am at wits end as run in net leagues for Nascar Racing 1999 and
Legends.
Legends supports direct 3d so runs nice but 1999 only uses windows
rasterizer (blech) rendition, or 3dfx.

Need to get it working as am in lead for championship in 1999 truck
league!

Any assist appreciated greatly!

Thanks
Ron

hmm.. well atleast you are getting an image, that means the card is
working...

You might want to try to take the Voodoo3 out again and turn the onboard vid
card back on... then start up Windows and set the vid card to standard VGA
card. Then turn off the system and install the Voodoo3... Fire up the sytem
again and load the Voodoo3 drivers.

To me it sounds like Windows is trying to load the drivers of the onboard
card for the Voodoo3 which won't work and causes your errors....

I believe the Voodoo3 manual also discusses this...

Ooh, this one's a ***.  That's what I had on my Celeron 500 system.  I tried
to get it to work with my V3 3000.  I finally gave up - I'm gonna sell it to
someone who doesn't need an advanced graphics card...

Tried that.

Also tried removing all profiles and restarting, butr it keeps auto
detecting the original card and the voodoo and reinstalls both.

if does that and then remove the on board again it still errors.

Talked with a freind earlier and wonder if he ay be right if there is
a jumper to disable it??

Not sure as have to pull whole fan cage out to get to that part of
motherboard.

Thanks

Some boards automatically disable the onboard vid card whene they detect
another one.. others however need a jumper setting in order to disable the
onboard vid card. It also might be that there is a option in the bios to
disable it.... consult the manual of your motherboard if you have it...
