It's not a limitation, the way it's done actually gives you more
viewable area to the sides than the normal fullscreen mode. I guess
you also find it annoying, that movie theatres don't show movies
in TV-format (almost square). If it really bothers you, why don't
you use the controls on your monitor and stretch the image to
full screen.. then the proportions will be all wrong, but at
least you'll have a full screen image.

Besides in the real version, those black areas are filled with
replay controls and laptime info during the replay.

Well, with that attitude I suppose you don't watch any "letterbox"
television movies or videos on your TV set, hmmmm?

I like it so much when people like you automaticly make decisions for
me. Just cause I'm not a hard core sim person doesnt mean I cant enjoy
GPL. I may not love GPL like some do but I could certainly like and
enjoy GPL.

Just cause you're not a ***maniac doesnt mean you cant indulge in
some mattress hockey now and then. Get the picture?

Do I have to really state my reason for prefering normal view screen
shape as oppose to 16x9 format again? I dont think its really
necessary, its in a few other posts.

>Heh, this has got to be the stupidest reason not to buy GPL.

Agreed! To be honest I rather suspect that the overwhelming positive
reaction to GPL here in RAS will soon wear him down.

Still, he got a reaction. Maybe that was his intention?

Not exactly a good example. In order for your example to relate to a
computer monitor the movie would have to have a gap 3 to 4 feet at the
top and bottom of the actual screen its being projected to. Tell me
that wouldnt bother you? My examples not totolly correct either but
you get the point. The available viewing area isnt totally used and I
consider that a complete waste.

Actually, the main reason to have a wide-screen view is to increase the
'sense of speed'. One's impression of speed comes largely due to the
movement of objects in one's 'peripheral vision'. In most driving sims this
is hard to recreate as the***pit view is essentially straight ahead. When
I got the GPL demo I thought the letterbox view was c**% until I realised
what it enabled them to do. Essentially, running with the letter box mode
allows them to include far more detail out to the side of the car in
relation to the 'straight-ahead view' which, when moving, increases the
percieved sense of speed. Now, I don't know about you but I'd gladly put up
with almost anything that gives me the impression that I'm really driving
fast. What's the point in looking down at the speedo to see you're supposed
to be doing 180 mph but it feels like 40?

Now if only I could afford one of those panoramic Sony monitors to go with
this thing... :-)

Win98 now supports multiple screens... Imagine one smaller monitor on
each side of your main screen, showing the "Z" and "X" view
respectively... Now, *that* would give some impression of speed,
wouldn't it? :)
I know there are many reasons why this wouldn't work, but I can dream,
can't I?

er, using 3 3dfx cards (and probably other types of card too),
you can already do this - just plug in 3 monitors. your game would
need to be written to detect all 3 cards at once. and it could
actually also be using your 2d card at the same time as well...
