Problem with NFS2

I recently purchased NFSII and I am unable to get it running.  I enter
the game and go through the menus, but when it's time to start the race
the screen stays black.  Everything is working (sound, even the game
play), but I can't see a thing!

I am running with DirectX3a and all other games work fine, even NFSSE.

Any help will be most appreciated!
