For every improvement I've seen, I've seen something else get worse. Now the
AI will race you harder for position, but they will also run you off the
track as if you aren't even there.

I'm comparing it to what my expectations are for five years of development,
as well as gauging the AI improvements in other *** genres (RPG,
FPS,etc), not to mention the quality of AI in some of the competing racing
products from other companies (Ratbag, EA, etc).

Papyrus has made major strides in graphics and even physics since N1, but AI
quality seems to have taken a back seat to multiplayer development -
something I could care less about until there is once again a centralized
hosting (e.g., TEN) style system on which to race multiplayer.

Someone who feels they should "hire someone who knows how to fix it" must
have some idea how to fix it.

I know exactly how to fix it: hire someone who knows how to fix it.

The way to fix the AI is to race online without the AI.

Online SIM racing?   Outide of GPL??  I didn't know it existed.  I did try
this sim called N4... it was great.  I could run head on into a wall at
170mph, drive to the pits, get repairs, and not lose any speed when I
returned to the track!

This made for some excellent lap speeds at Bristol and Martinsville.

Boy is that a joke. Are you for real? 3/4 of the servers are passworded out
and the others have wreck fests every lap. I fixed the ai myself and am
having a blast! ( Nascar Heat's ai is better though.) There is a major
wrecking problem with Martinville in N4. That Papy has to fix.

So, you just have to make friends with the people running passworded servers so
that you can join...<g>
