ACT Labs Force RS - noise ?

ACT Labs Force RS - noise ?

by Herman Ibur » Sun, 20 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I recently bought a ACT Labs Force RS and I think
it is great for the force feedback quality.

But I have one minor point and that is: I think
the steering of this wheel does not run very smoothly
(You have to use much power to move the steering from
left to right, and if you do that you hear the steering go from left
to right (I hear it also in games), I think this noise is a minor point
of the wheel. Do other steering wheels have this same problem ?

Now my question: do you think the same about those points or
do I have a wheel with a failure ?

The second problem I have is the new driver software from ACT Labs
(download): I use them in Windows 98 and have the serial version of
this wheel, and in the control panel (under game controllers), the
examples
of force feedback (like wooden bridge etc) are not working !

Many thanks.

The new drivers didn't work for me either.

However, I did install the I-force reference drivers from
www.force-feedback.com and they work well.

They give you separate brake and accelerator axes.

The wheel is somewhat noisy but I can live with that.

ACT Labs Force RS - noise ?

Hi All,

The problems you are experiencing have to do with the incomplete
removal of the old drivers. In the "readme.txt" file that comes with
the latest drivers are detailed instructions on un-installing the
drivers and starting fresh.

If you did in fact follow the instructions, I suspect you missed the
part about removing the Force RS entries from the list of devices that
pops up in game controllers when you click on "add" on the general
page.

Read the instructions carefully and note that you are supposed to
bring up the device list by clicking on "add", highlight the Force RS
entry (of which there are probably two) and then press the delete key
***on the keyboard*** to remove it. Repeat steps until all Force RS
entries are gone.

Next, you remove any Force RS entries from the device manager.

Then, remove the "immersioncorporationACT?????.inf" files from the
c:\windows\inf\other" folder.

Finally, re-boot the PC and re-install the drivers when windows
re-detects the wheel (wheel must be connected and powered on, of
course).

This should solve the problem.

Zenon
