Error Reading CD-ROM

by T. Bosser » Sun, 07 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Trying to install some programs (e.g. GPL) or run them on either
             Pioneer DVD-drive      or            Philips CD-Writer
results in the message

Error Reading CD-ROM in Drive <drive:>
Please insert CD-ROM With Serial Number <number> in Drive <drive:>
If the CD-ROM is still in the drive, it may require cleaening.
Press ENTER for OK or ESC to cancel:OK

(Win98, SCSI). The CD-ROMS are ok ( clean originals ) and install/run on
a standard CD-drive (i.e. SCSI but neither DVD nor CD-Writer).

Is this normal or is there a solution/workaround ?

Error Reading CD-ROM

I have run into a similar problem in the past.  Do you have both drives on
the same IDE channel?  Win98 (in my case) seems to search only as far as the
first removable drive in the chain.  I tried leaving my two current favorite
game cd's in the drives and found constant cd errors on drive G, my drives
are F: and G:  Once I removed the cd from drive F my problem went away.
Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the reply, but it must be something else. My CD-ROMs are not on the
IDE-bus - I'm using SCSI and I have the same effect on both devices.
