The turns have (and should have) negative camber on many of them, but
even taking that into account it seems slippy. The Papy track files
include elements describing grip, so it may be that it is not
"perfect" for Brands Hatch.

Mind you, if the real guys were doing 1:32s then I would have set the
grip level as David did, since the top GPL drivers are not far off
those times.

Cheers!

: As a matter of interest: if I leave everything alone but just reduce the
: ride height to 2.5 inches, it seems to change the handling so the car
: oversteers more: am I imagining this, or is it what ought to happen?

If 67 Brands is anything like the modern brands there's a load of
elevation changes taken at speed.  So you'd probably need the ride
height pretty high to keep the car off the bump ***s.  Otherwise
one end of the car or the other will suddenly find itself running
"rock hard suspension from hell" and you'll skitter off the road.

Of course I've not downloaded the brands track yet so I can't say for
sure that this is what is happening but I would say that it sounds
likely from what I know of brands.  The track surface also has a "plowed
field" kind of texture nowadays - if it used to be anything like the
same then you probably need pretty soft suspension for any kind of grip.

Matthias,

     No you're not. I tried several tracks;Silverstone,Zandvoort,and
Mosport. Finally settled on Mosport as a good starting point. But wound up
making a lot of changes to my setup.

Hi there....

I have a Ferrari best time of 1:36.16 at Brands Hatch.
I used Ali's Glen setup, shortened 5th by 3-5 clicks and
adjusted the lower gears to suit... I put the ride height
at 2.5inches and have 19psi fronts and 21psi rears....

Druids in 2nd gear, next sweeping left curve in 3rd, up
to 5th on the long downhill/uphill straight and then 3rd gear
all the way round to the last slow corner,,,, and I reach top
revs in 5th on the start finish straight....

Yes, it feels very slippery. Today I noticed this the first time. I
drove a few laps around the circuit and especially accelerating out of
the hairpin the car was sliding all over the place.

After Brands I tried Rouen and I was much more comfortable with the
car. My setups at Rouen and Brands are almost similar, so that can't
affect very much. So yes, Brands seems to be more slippery than most
of the other tracks.

Keep in mind that the Race of Champions was held very early in the year - it
probably was cold:))

Now - how about GPL cars on a frozen lake? <g>

I disagree, i don't notice any difference in the grip levels of Brands
Hatch and the other tracks in GPL.
IMO Brands seems to have the same grip as the other tracks in GPL, so i
think a bit of the adhesion loss some guys are suffering comes from the
setup parameters that are being used, rather than the actual track
adhesion levels.
Actually, i feel Monaco and Mosport have a less sticky feeling than
Brands Hatch has.
That is of course, only my opinion..  :))
Cheers,
Ron

Yes, John...that's exactly what my impression was. I moved between Brands
and Mosport (as I feel the layout and elevation changes are somewhat
similar) and the behaviour of the cars was totally different with regard to
the traction experienced.....even allowing for the camber changes between
the two layouts.

I'm with you Ron, Brands feels identical in grip level to the other tracks
imo.

I popped a 1:37.82 now, Ferrari, Allison's Silverstone set, up 1 click
front and back. Using one gear lower on approaches to the sharpies. If
you are still over 2:00 you need a faster computer! Gives more grip!
