WinVROC Probs

I just re-installed WinVROC and GPL, after doing a system upgrade and I
can't get into a race.

GPL was re-installed from a back-up (with all of my set-up,controller
and video settings, etc) -- not from the retail CD.  However, it runs
just fine offline.  It was installed to the default directory
(c:\sierra\gpl)

In WinVROC, I do get a race list.  However, when entering a race, I get
a GPF and a hard system lock-up.  I have tried resetting the GPL
directory from within WinVROC, by both typing it in, and by browsing to
it, but I still get the GPF.

My system is an Athlon XP1700+; 512 Megs RAM; Voodoo5 videocard; Windows
98SE; using a cable modem to connect to the internet.

Any help with this or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bert

Try installing GPL from the disc, then copying your directory over it.

I did a real quick try at this.  Disabled FSAA and WinVROC found GPL and
started it up.  I got a network error at the multi-player screen, but
I'd guess that's unrelated to this.

Gotta go to work, so I can't experiment now.

Thanks for the tip about the FSAA, but I'm sure that I had 2x FSAA
running before I had to re-format my drive.  I'm using the same video
driver as before.  Why wouldn't it work with VROC now?  Could it have
something to do with the new motherboard (Epox 8KHA+)?  FSAA works fine
when in offline GPL.....

Thanks!

Disabling FSAA was a Nvidia problem.  3dfx users have always been able to
connect with VROC AND have FSAA enabled.  Just another example of progress
by stepping backwards.

I believe you're right , Dave.  FSAA shouldn't be the issue.  I think my
problem is my firewall.  I'll have to check it.

I'm able to connect to GPL when I turn the firewall off, but I get a
"Client/Server bandwidth Mismatch" error message.

Any idea what that's all about?

Thanks,
Bert

The server you are trying to connect to, is it ASRG BTW?, has installed the bw patch, or the more
cars patch as some people call it.

That very well may have been the case.  Let me try another server and see......

Thanks!
