GPL reverse lock - any use?

by Greg Sutto » Thu, 23 Jul 1998 04:00:00

I can't seem to get much effect from reverse lock to correct
oversteer.  Is it just my technique?  It seems much harder than
in real life.  Is it that much more difficult in a GP3 on a race
circuit than in a clapped out old Volvo on an oil-soaked
skid-pan?

Or am I just expecting too much?

Greg.

its called  balance, and the cars in GPL have none :)
its not just oversteer you've got to use to correct the slide, but also
feathering the throttle. goto http://gpl.gamesats.com goto the fastlaps
section and download some faslaps, listen to how their engine revs thru the
corners etc etc. (Dont get too peeved if you cant do the times they are
doing!)

You cant really compare it with your Volvo, even if you drove a real GP3 car,
cause your Volvo has the ability to turn the wheels 45 degrees. I doubt a real
GP3 car gets even close to that. This makes it of course much harder to use
reverse lock to correct oversteer.

The setup used in the demo is also not a very good setup, according to the beta
testers. Also the physics has been fine tuned for the retail version, so I'm
pretty sure reverse lock will work better in the retail version. Remember, it's
a demo :o). I know it's one of the best demos ever released by any sim racing
company and you can easily be fooled into believing it's not a demo :o).

Yeah, that's what I thought ....

I just wanted to check that it wasn't just me.

Thanks, Greg.

Also make sure you have the fastest frame rate available, otherwise you will
have obvious difficulty throttle balancing and steering slide control.

Mike.

Throttle balancing - no problem
Opposite lock - no good

One final thought...  all the old racing film I've seen shows
lots of opposite lock being used all the time, (well, going
round corners anyway) so to be realistic I'd better get good at
it.

Throttle balancing - no worries.
Opposite lock - easy life.

:-)
