What setup are you using? The default setup is not that great,
although you can get under 1:30 with it (with less fuel). Try a Huttu
setup, one of the originals and not the GH2 ones. Also use separate
pedals axes if possible, and a force feedback wheel will help to feel
the car. What speed is your PC? A faster rig will give a smoother
simulation and you really need that to develop consistency. I just got
my Athlon XP 1600+ / GeForce2 GTS rig to run and have set a couple of
new fast laps in the last day or two - without really trying.

If there is one corner where you can gain a lot of time, it is T2
(sorry, can't remember the name which is really bad because I used to
live near Silverstone and love the place). Shift up to fourth on the
run to the corner, ease back a little as you point the car into the
apex, then nail the sucker as you brush the left hand kerbstones.
Don't use the brakes at all there! Blast in fourth to T3. I bet you
can gain a second right there. Similar strategy for the corner that is
second after Stowe, but shift into third for that corner and use a
little brake to help turn the car into the apex. Those two corners are
where you can lose a ton of time. The last corner is the only
remaining tricky corner, brake at the dark mark on the track surface
and shift down to third there. You have to keep on some gas or else
the car will spin out. This is probably the single biggest technique
to master, balancing the car on the gas and brakes. Without gas, you
will have to brake earlier and finish braking before you turn - that
loses a lot of time especially on the last corner. What you really
could use is a replay that shows the pedal positions but I don't
believe that is possible because I don't think the pedal positions are
recorded in the replay file.

A 1:26 is tough, don't expect to get there easy but keep on trying and
good luck.

Keith.
