486DX2/66 w/ 12megs RAM + SB16 + 6x CD-ROM + T2 wheel...anybody able to
play GP2 with this setup? How realistic (read 'fast') is it? Or, should
I just stick with World Circuit (GP1)? Comments, please. Thanks.

Don't stick to GP1, GP2 is much better... But accept that SVGA is for the
Pentium guys only....

I have a P60, 16Mb and I can't play in SVGA (or with no details, no
textures, no object :((
I play in VGA with only road, grass and fences textures...
GP2 needs a high machine (more than P100...) to be great...
A friend of mine have a DX2/66 and he can't play (even with no details...)
so he plays with GP1...

I used to play GP2 on a 486/66. VGA. Turned all detail off except curbes.
Game is still much better than GP1!.

Replaced the processor w/ a AMD 486/133 (they call it a P5). Am now able to
play SVGA w/ minimum details. Can send you exact settings if your
interested.

greets, J.

with the dx2 i prefered sticking with gp1. i think you need >20 fps to
practice in a reasonable way. to have 25 fps with most of the details in
just VGA you need a p166 nowadays. if you want 25 fps with the details
in SVGA wait for the p500.

Not rich enough, so I use my 486 DX2/66 (Ram 8MB, SB16, CD-Rom 2x) :
the results are - vga graphs (not surprising !)
                - level of track details to zero
                - a few details selected in options (road texture, and one or two
other little things)
                - 16 fps ;)  I repeat : 16 fps

... and, believe it or not, it doesn't prevent me from finding the game
realistic, and play it every night since I got it...
So my final comment is : GP2 is worth playing it, even with a "small"
computer.

MY THANKS TO THOSE THAT RESPONDED...CONSENSUS SEEMS TO BE 'STICK WITH
GP1 UNTIL YOU CAN UPGRADE'. THANKS AGAIN...MORE COMMENTS ALWAYS WELCOME.

I got also a DX2/66 but with 8mb. The game is still playable but you
must turn almost everything off. So you got about 18 FPS with a
processor occupancy 110 %

Hi there.

I'v got a 486 DX4 100mhz with 20MB RAM and a Diamond Stealth 64 Video
card. I drive GP2 in SVGA just fine. The framerate i around 12 and half
of the details are on...
The game keeps getting better.... ;-{)

I have heard, that someone has a S3 accelerator file for GP2. Can anyone
please tell me the name - and maybe where to get it?

Thanks a'lot!

Maybe he expects more than he can get?  I'm playing GP2 with DX2-66 and
it is acceptable.  Frame rate setting at 15 fps, all details except smoke
off, and most of the time processor occypancy is in 75-105% region.  Starts
and some hairpins are bit slow (100-150%).

It is playable, but it could be faster...

Pasi.

I played it on my DX2 for a month or so. I was able to get a decent framerate
(17fps)during practice in VGA with no detail. That's about it I fear. Start a
race and things slow down simply too much....My new p166 does a better job I
must say :-)

        Hi!

        I have a 486/dx2 66 with 16 M ram and i play
GP2 with about 18 FPS with some of the details on.

I usually played it at 14.2 fps wich i found real good.
I had trackside objects at medium level, and most
of the other details on besides mirror details, sky
and verges i think.  Anyway i changed to lower graphics
because the i play a modem season with my friend and to
get like 13 FPS on modem, you about 19 on each machine
        before connection.

We both have dx2 66 but my friend has only 8M of ram.

We find the game really fun and fully playable and enjoyable.
One of my other friend also plays it on a dx50 with 20 M ram.

                                                Fred

Great.
So what am I doing with a P-75, 32MB Ram and a Hercules Terminator 3D
then?
No way am I ever going to play a normal GP2-game (=>20fps), unless I
turn all options off. At least in VGA I can get about 24 fps with all
options on.

Peter.
(who really wants a P-133 or greater, but hasn't got the money yet).

I got a rain check from Best Buy but I will beleive it when they call me
and say it is in. All these rumors that someone has seen it is a bunch
of B.S.
It sounds like Sierra won't let anyone know when it will be out so they
don't have to eat their words. I would guess they are working as hard as
they can to get it going and to the stores. After this long it better
be a great racing sim. Please stop posting all the; my brothers friend
bought
it at walmart and I know he doesn't lie stories. See ya on Hawaii.
