A new version of my sim

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I last presented my sim, and, truth be told,
not much has changed on the surface, if not underneath. Currently it
contains an ugly oval and an ugly Champ Car, but you'll get the drift
(bad pun).

The link is

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Just unzip it into a directory of choice. A word of caution, though;
it's still extremely user unfriendly, and if tinkering with a text
editor to set the controls up isn't your cup of tea (check the included
readme.html for details) you better don't try to use it.

Have fun,

-Gregor

Coo, quite impressive Gregor. I tend to lose the back end on the oval all
the time, it just seems to step out at every bend and is very hard to catch,
almost as if the back brakes are locked up.

Is there any way you could plonk in a track-mounted TV camera? I found those
really helpful in Ruud's Racer when trying to figure out why on earth I kept
spinning (in the case of Racer I found that just 1 mm of brake pedal travel
was enough to lock either the fronts or the backs, still seems to do it in
4.7 unfortunately).

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

thanks for the compliments! The setup is indeed very neutral at trailing
throttle, and if you're entering the turns fully without throttle, you
will most likely spin (no brakes are needed on turn entry). The fronts
will lock way before the rears will, so that is not happening.

Just enter the turn, and tailor your line with the throttle, you should
be fine then. If not, go to data/phy directory, open the car.phy file,
and at the bottom there are some aerodynamic parameters (three PhyAero
declarations). I think the second one is the rear wing, increase the
value for Cl for it if you still find the setup too loose.

Indeed, trackside cameras are the next thing to add ;).

Cheers,

-Gregor

But the track is sooo smooth. ;-)

Physics data is not the thing that gets changed with new versions; if
braking is too sensitive, try modifying the car.ini file
(wheel0.max_braking). Really depends on the car too. The Evo is hard
to swing around even.
If it turns out a controller issue, you can tweak the control sets
(explained on my site), but most of the time it's just the car.ini.

Good luck,

Someone did an F1 car for Racer with wings which starts to feel quite
ok. That means a Cart sim can be started with some cars. They're just
so stiff, but 1000Hz seems to work ok (note that Racer v0.4.8 will let
you 'scrape' the car over the surface a bit better).

Just check out the Ferrari 2001 with tweaks from Harjan, somewhere on
the Racer forum. Ofcourse, you need some specs of the Cart cars.
Perhaps from Cart heat. :) Ah, why bother at all if you have Cart heat
(never seen it though).
