HONOST - Talladega Setups

by Andy » Tue, 13 Feb 1996 04:00:00

I have been running NASCAR since it hit the shelf and enjoy the hell
out of it. I am also an avid NASCAR fan.  I run the short tracks alot
and have actually stayed AWAY from Talladega because the Dogleg was
basically kicking my A$$. But I finally got over that and am finally
trying to get a good setup.

I know these questions have been asked and asked and asked BUT.......

I am running at 100% opp. strength with 38 cars in the field
85 degrees 0 wind

The Pole care is qualifying at or close to 194.9's

I am on my best effort able to obtain a 192.448
basically without having the numbers in front of me my setup is:

60 lbs. in the tires except 59 in the left front <a lil' more heat>
I have screwed around with shocks excessivly and the best I have come
up with is:

        LF 100%
        RF 100%
        RR  85%
        LR   90%
 Wheel Lock:   5%
 Cross Weight:  50.6%
 Fuel 3 gallons

Basically a Lap Summary ( 2 laps done to heat the tires up)
Turns One and two:  192 in  184 out
End of backstretch:  If I hold 'er in line well I can obtain 201 mph
(4th gear is at 3.50)
Turns three and four : 198 in 188 out
around 191 thru the dogleg

Anyone taking time to reply take note:  1. Thanks for your time
                                        2. Don't give me any ***about restrictor plates and
                                            editing the files.
                                            Cheat's suck!

Thanks......

Andy

201? I can only get to 197-198 on the back straight, and still come
out with 192-193 laps. What are your other weights set at? Left and
rear, I mean.

Andy,

If you have access to the WWW, you should take a look at Bill
Cranston's NASCAR Racing Home Page at http:://www.synapse.net/~crankstr/

Not only does he have setup information, he also has detailed descriptions
(with pictures and replay files) of how he drove the lap.

While I still can't go as fast as Bill did with his setup, I did improve my
own time (even with my own setup) by a couple of miles per hour.

Regards,

Brad

Try setting your rear shocks very soft. This will allow the rear of the
car to sit lower, taking some of the air off the spoiler (less drag).
