Talladega Setup

Using the NCSETUP utility, here is a setup I have used at Talladega.
At this point I am a keyboard-only driver (yuck!), haven't gotten a
Thrustmaster yet. But without restrictor plates I have gotten 191.461
average lap at Talladega.

Any comments on how this rides when using a joystick or Thrustmaster?

Hello Don,

Without restrictor plates, I believe it's quite easy to turn laps
in the 215 range.  You definitely will want to get a joystick or
wheel, however - keyboard control is literally like jerking the
wheel *all the way* and letting it back every time you press and
release the steering keys.  (With that in mind, you may want to
really crank down the steering lock until you get another
controller - try 4 degrees.)

Glancing over your setup, I notice a few things: first, as long
as you're fine-tuning the car, you don't really need all 22 gallons
of fuel - 5 gallons or so will give you quite enough laps to get
an idea of how the car's responding, and will be good practice for
qualifying day.

I find that Talladega allows a *very* neutral setting compared to
most ovals.  I'm able to run with no stagger, no wedge (cross
weight), and little left bias.  However, you should IMO stick as
much weight in the front of the car as you're allowed, since you're
on the gas *all the time* around the track.  It may take some
practice to run through the tri-oval at 210 with no stagger or
wedge, but I know it can be done.

Finally, raise your front spoiler to 5" and take out as much rear
spoiler as you can (40 deg I believe).  You just don't need any
aerodynamic downforce at Talladega - the banks do it all. :)

Hope this helps,

John

For fast laps at Talladega set your tire pressures to max (60psi), and shocks to 100%.
Typical attainable speeds for a steering combo are 201+ *with* restrictor plates.

It's slow. Put the front air dam all the way up, the rear spoiler all the way
down, increase tire pressure all the way around to at least 50psi, and turn
off the breaking help if you've got it on.

Without restrictor plates you should be able to turn laps of 210+ quite
easily. A good setup w/ plates should get you to qualify at between 198 and
204 (depends on the weather).

I have been able to get as high as 209+ putting air pressure and air dam
up and spoiler down. I *cannot* make the last turn without letting up on
the gas (the 209 I hit the wall!), if I let up I can't do better
than 201. Any tips on how to get through the last turn?
