Modem Problems

We are trying to connect a USR Sportster 14.4 and a 28.8 USR Sportster, but
we are long distance and using a Long-distance provider where I put in a 7
digit prefix, followed by pauses(several) and then dial the number. We can't
seem to connect in ICR I, and have thus tried a direct connect with a
Dos-based communications package(Quicklink II). We are able to connect for a
short while(several seconds) but lose the connection.  Any ideas or Help would
be appreciated.
We seem to connect using this string  AT &M0 &K0 &N6 but lose it.  Is
it "timing out" or.....        DK

In a similar vein, is there a modem string text file somewhere?  The files in
the programs (ICR, ICR II, NCR) have a few, but not nearly enough, apparently.
If there's NOT a list out there, I might be willing to compile one...but
don't QUOTE me on that one<g>!

e-mail, please

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?
