T2 driving problems

by Joel Willste » Fri, 19 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Yesterday I purchased a Thrustmaster T2 wheel after using a Gravis joystick
for the last 2 weeks, (yes I've only been at it for 2 weeks.).

I have been practicing at Michigan trying to learn the track well enough
to race by the time that the real Cart cars are there.  I was able to get around
the track consistantly in the low 230s with the Gravis joystick.  When I
switched over to the T2, I'm having a hard time just getting around the track
period.  I can't seem to be able to keep the car down going thru 2 & 4, most
of the time I hit the wall.

I thought that I was using the same line as I did with the joystick, but
watching my replays shows that I'm entering turns 1 & 3 too high, and I can't
seem to be able to correct this problem without really slowing down too
much.

Does anybody have any suggestions?  I'm using the computer setting set
at easy.  I hope so, 'cause even Hiro is faster than me!!

Second qestion.  I was waiting until Nascar 2 came out this fall, however,
with  some of the talk in this group, will I be able to full advantage of the game
with my system, because it only has a 486DX4-100 microprocessor.

Thanks for the Help,

Joel Willstein

Do you mean the Michigan 500 (or USA 500 like I think it was called
this year). It took place a long time ago...same week-end as Indy500

He means the Michigan 500.  The US500 was held at the same track
earlier this season, but is considered a different race.  Now, as for
your steering wheel problem, theories may vary, but entering high on
turn 1 is usually the way to go, cutting low across the apex and
exiting turn 2 as close to the outside wall of the straight as
possible (without hitting it, of course.)  I have found that entering
turn 3 low (even with the left wheels over the line) has worked very
well, and flatten out the turn at the very end of the front "straight"
near the wall to set up for turn 1 again.  As I have said, other
people on this site are far more experienced than I, but you should be
able to turn 237+ with the ACE setup.  Be sure to recalibrate your
wheel in the CONTROLS page of the OPTIONS section, just to be safe.
Also make sure that if you are using a custom setup that you didn't
make your turning radius too tight in order to accomodate your
joystick usage.

Good Luck,
