The Ultimate Sim PC - Your Recommendations

I currently have a Dell Latitude CP 233Mhz notebook.  It is obviously not
the best driving simulation platform.  I am considering taking an old 386
box and upgrading to an optimal, exclusive-use driving simulation machine
(GP2 and CPR).  I would like you to give me your recommendations on the
hardware components I should purchase in building this new machine.  I want
it to work great, but I also want to spend no more than I have to.

These are the issues I'll need to resolve:

Motherboard
CPU type
CPU speed
RAM (amount and type)
HD
CD
Graphics card
Sound
Game port Controller
Anything else I haven't listed

Thanks!

Well, once you have bought all those parts to upgrade your machine, what
will you do with the 386 ?
